The Great Bustard is listed on Annex II of the Convention. However, its Middle European population is considered to be endangered and thus listed on Annex I of the convention.

The species is listed on Appenix II of the Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats.

The species is listed on the Wild Birds Directive (79/409/EEC) of the European Union and thus enjoys the strictest community protection.

The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora lists Great Bustard on Appendix II, which means that the trade in this species should be closely controlled.
